Community Partnerships

West Bank School of Music has been a partner with public/charter schools, nonprofit social service organizations, and community centers in the Twin Cities. Our partnership programs improve access to music education for school aged children through classes, concerts, lessons, and demonstrations.

Recent children's programs include:
  • General music enrichment and education classes for the homeless children of St. Anne’s Place
  • African music classes for 6-8th graders participating in the Brian Coyle Center’s Jumpstart program
  • Scholarship-funded private lessons for 7-8th grade students at Southside Family Charter School
  • A multi-instrument, multi-genre demonstration and concert for K-6 students at Partnership Academy, where 85% of the students have English as their second language.
Community Involvement

WBSM is also active in the West Bank and Twin Cities community in other ways. Over the years we have provided hundreds of free concerts that have reached audiences of more than a quarter million Twin Cities metro area residents at such venues as the Lake Harriet Bandshell, Minnehaha Falls Park, Cedar Fest, the May Day parade, Augsburg College, and the University of Minnesota.

In recognition of our contributions to Minnesota arts and education, we have received honorary proclamations from the state of Minnesota, Hennepin County and city of Minneapolis.

WBSM employs Augsburg College work study students in our front office and also offers internship opportunities for course credit in partnership with the Augsburg College Music Business program.

We are long time members of the West Bank Safety Committee and partner with the West Bank Business Association and local businesses, Second Ward Council Member Cam Gordon, the Brian Coyle Center,
the Minneapolis NRP, Augsburg College, and the University of Minnesota’s Humphrey Institute CHANCE program to improve livability and safety in our neighborhood.

WBSM is our block club leader and through the West Bank Safety Committee has helped recruit and organize residents and businesses to participate in citizen education, safety networks, walking patrols, and neighborhood cleanups.
